Garden Releaf Day 2020

Sunday, 22 March

You are invited to join in as Independent Garden Centres across Australia come together to connect people with the health and wellness benefits of plants, gardens and gardening. Recent research coming out of the University of Queensland reveals people getting a minimum dose of 30 green minutes a week (in one session) are more likely to have healthy emotional, physical and mental wellbeing than those who don’t. In recognising this Garden Releaf Day 2020 encourages people and communities to get involved with ideas and inspiration to help them experience the joys of being in a garden, no matter how big or small.

Garden Centres across Australia will be encouraging you to ‘Plant a pot’ of colour or something edible. You may choose to pick a pretty flower, go for a stroll in a garden, pull out a few weeds, style your home with living indoor greenery or create an outdoor space to socialise in and escape a busy world. Whatever your interests are, Garden Releaf Day is a chance to get involved and feel the benefits of enriching your life with plants, flowers, herbs, fragrance and colour.

To deposit any garden centre donations please visit your event page (listed below) and select ‘Donate’

Garden Releaf is an innovative program established by Garden Centres of Australia (GCA) in 2014 to help people understand the numerous benefits that spending time in a garden or simply being surrounded by living greenery can have on a person’s health and wellbeing.

Beyond Blue

Many of us have been affected by anxiety and depression, either personally or through family, friends or colleagues. Right now, over 1 million people in Australia experience depression and 2 million are experiencing anxiety. On average, 8 people take their lives every day in Australia.

Beyond Blue’s vision is for all people in Australia to achieve their best possible mental health.

The funds and awareness you raise will help us enormously as we work to support people to protect their mental health and to recover when they are unwell, reduce people’s experiences of stigma and discrimination, and improve people’s opportunities to get effective support and services at the right time.

With your support, we will continue to innovate and deliver new services and programs, distribute free information resources and share powerful stories of hope and recovery across Australia, fund world-leading research, roll out evidence-based campaigns and advocate for all people in Australia affected by anxiety, depression and suicide.

Your support will also help us keep up with demand for our 24/7 phone and online Support Service – which is staffed by mental health professionals and provides life-saving support to hundreds of people every day.
