As some of you may know, last year Winslow launched a campaign called “Big Blue” in association with the mental health organisation “Beyond Blue”. We made a very visible statement of recognition and support for mental health awareness both in our organisation and in our industry by painting our latest new 36t excavator bright blue. We continue to work on and grow this initiative. This year we are embarking on a program to change the narrative and start working on building the resilience skills within our team.

On March 16th, with a bunch of mates, I will be heading to Nepal to climb to Mt. Everest base camp. As I plan for this trek it strikes me that this endeavor is an exercise to build my own resilience, it is a personal challenge that will test my physical and mental fitness to endure unfamiliar environmental conditions.
If not too much to ask, I would like to firstly encourage you to challenge your own organisation’s mental health strategy and secondly motivate your organisation to help the group from which we at Winslow draw much of our inspiration, ‘Beyond Blue’. I would like to link my trekking effort, as a means to generate support for the great work that Beyond Blue do within our Industry and wider community.

Beyond Blue

Many of us have been affected by anxiety and depression, either personally or through family, friends or colleagues. Right now, over 1 million people in Australia experience depression and 2 million are experiencing anxiety. On average, 8 people take their lives every day in Australia.

Beyond Blue’s vision is for all people in Australia to achieve their best possible mental health.

The funds and awareness you raise will help us enormously as we work to support people to protect their mental health and to recover when they are unwell, reduce people’s experiences of stigma and discrimination, and improve people’s opportunities to get effective support and services at the right time.

With your support, we will continue to innovate and deliver new services and programs, distribute free information resources and share powerful stories of hope and recovery across Australia, fund world-leading research, roll out evidence-based campaigns and advocate for all people in Australia affected by anxiety, depression and suicide.

Your support will also help us keep up with demand for our 24/7 phone and online Support Service – which is staffed by mental health professionals and provides life-saving support to hundreds of people every day.
